Hypnotism

The word hypnosis is derived from the Greek word hypnos, meaning sleep.. hypnotism is a means of bringing on an artificial state of sleep to the participant ...more accurately described as a state of reduced consciousness while one is a awake. Hypnotism is the scientific and clinical use of hypnosis. Hypnosis, or a hypnotic state, is a temporary condition of altered attention in an individual. A hypnotist is a person who uses hypnotism. Scientific evidence suggests that hypnotism is useful when it is practised by qualified professionals. .

Hypnosis is a natural part of human behaviour that affects psychological, social, and physical experience. There is no magic in hypnotism, and the hypnotist has no special power. The effects of hypnotism depend on the willingness and motivation of the person being hypnotized. In hypnosis, a change in the quality and focus of a person's attention alters his or her internal and external experience.

Many psychiatrists resort to hypnotism in the treatment of obesity. The psychiatrist takes the fat person into deep trance which is the state of subconsciousness. There after that person is given a post-hypnotic suggestion that after recovering from the trance his liking for sugar, bisciuts, cake, sweets, other carbohydrates would disappear. As the result of that his appetite would be reduced to some extent. Subconscious mind of the patient follow those instructions and finds that when he goes home he has developed an aversion for the above carbohydrate foods. In this way he is able to exercise dietary control and that helps him in reducing his weight.

Where patient is suffering from a psychological disorder or is unable to reduce his weight due to his weakness to resist the temptation to eat, hypnosis can be employed under the care of proper expert. Experts can only decide in which case hypnosis is necessary and in which case it is not necessary.
