THE CONCEPT
Sugar Busters has been around since 1995. The diet plan was developed
under the assumption that sugar and insulin levels are major factors
in weight gain and loss. By cutting out all sugar and many forms
of carbohydrates, people will be capable of controlling their
insulin levels which, in turn will allow weight loss to occur.
THE PLAN
The plan basically calls for the complete restriction of all
sugar and certain carbohydrates, the main banned foods are potatoes,
white bread, white rice, pasta, and also bananas. The diet allows
for red meat, nuts, chicken, fish, most vegetables, and generally
anything low on the Glycemic Index.
The diet is supposed to last for 2 weeks, to be repeated if necessary.
The plan claims that by cutting sugar out of our diets, we cause
less spikes in our insulin levels in the bloodstream. By doing
this, we are allowing our bodies to burn fat more efficiently
and therefore we lose weight. This, however, is false. The truth
is that insulin does not cause weight gain.
