THE CONCEPT
The Special K diet emerged over the past 2 years, becoming a
strong marketing strategy for Kellogg's Special K cereal. Studies
were performed at leading universities in the United States, and
findings showed that by replacing 2 meals a day with a bowl of
Special K cereal lost users upto 6 pounds over 2 weeks. From this,
it became a challenge to the public to try this plan for 2 weeks
so they can see the effect the healthy cereal can have on their
lives.
THE PLAN
Special K is a cereal manufactured by Kellogg's, a leading cereal
company. The cereal itself has always been marketed as a healthier
choice for breakfast than the standard eggs and bacon, or even
other cereals that tend to be high in sugar. Working with finding
from several studies conducted at universities, Kellogg's devised
a diet plan that is very similar to to any meal replacement diet,
such as the Shakes diet. The idea
is to replace breakfast and lunch with a bowl of the cereal, then
eat a regular meal for dinner. People can be misled to believe
that the diet burns fat because of the cereal, but in reality
the weight loss occurs because of the reduction in calories consumed.
The cereal is low in fat, cholesterol, calories. It can fill
people up without providing empty calories or simple carbohydrates.
Kellogg's also suggests combining the diet with some exercise
program to enhance the weight loss.
The diet claims that within 2 weeks of the diet, you can lose
6 pounds healthily and easily. The problem comes when users finish
the diet as their eating habits have not been modified if they
are not relying on the cereal to provide a low calorie alternative
to their usual dieting selections.
