THE CONCEPT
Shakes diet refers to meal replacement diets, which use prepared
"shakes" as a tool for weight loss. Diets such as Revival
Soy, Slim Fast, Kashi
GoLean use milk shakes as meal substitutes for weight loss.
THE PLAN
Generally, the shakes in these diet plans are made with many
nutrients, vitamins, and minerals, and many times they contain
a strong portion of soy-related ingredients. They are designed
to fill you up for an extended period of time, reducing the amount
of snacking the average person does in a day. By filling you up
without giving you many calories, users lose weight based solely
on the lack of calories.
People tend to enjoy these plans, because they offer results
and are easy to use. This plan suffers from a major pitfall that
many similar diets do, that once a user ceases the program, they
gain their weight back easily. There is no education on eating
well, nor any support for those attempting to go it on their own.
The diets can and do work for the most part. Their popularity
springs from the ease of use and the results. They can be recommended
safely, but with a warning to ensure that the one meal a day users
are meant to prepare themselves is rich in important ingredients
and that they try to include exercise into their program.
