Fad diets offering rapid weight loss, are almost always constructed
to drastically reduce the intake of some food, fat, or carbs,
for example. Yet our bodies all require a necessary amount of
all three types of calorie. Our bodies cannot function healthily
without a certain amount of fat calories. Also, we end up depriving
the body of many essential nutrients, vitamins and minerals when
we avoid food groups altogether. Just a general lack of calories
can cause our bodies to react slower, make us weaker, and other
undesireable effects.
Another big danger when attempting to lose weight quickly is
loose skin. Drastic shifts in weight can cause the muscle or fat
mass beneath the skin to be way smaller than the skin covering
it. This can leave flabby sections of skin on the otherwise leaner
body, and could require surgery to remove it later.
