THE CONCEPT
This diet was developed by Dr. Nicholas Perricone, a reknowned
dermatologist. His diet, however, is not meant to achieve weight
loss. His books, he describes a diet that claims to give users
better skin condition. By choosing the right foods, you can improve
skin's elasticity, reduce wrinkles, and make your body generally
healthier.
THE PLAN
The plan has specifics for the type of correction you want for
your skin. There is the normal plan, which is a 28-day diet that
can be repeated indefinitely. There is a 3-day diet which is meant
for faster skin effects, and can also be a nice little test before
undertaking the 28-day cycle. Perricone promises you will notice
the difference after the three days.
His diet has been improved, with Perricone adding the use of
topical creams, nutritional supplements, and regular exercise.
Since Perricone claims that blemishes and wrinkles are caused
by our diets causing inflammation beneath the skin. So all steps
to his diet are to prevent inflammation, feed our skin cells the
nutrients they need.
The diet is based on eating a diet that is filled with fish,
complex carbs, and water. Salmon is recommended with a majority
of the meals, otherwise other meats low in animal fats, such as
skinless chicken or turkey. The oils and acids in the fish help
skin's elasticity directly. Water is strongly encouraged - 8 glasses
a day. He asks that you choose only carbs with a low Glycemic
Index, and eat plenty of vegetables and legumes. You are meant
to cut out oils, except for olive oil. You should be eating foods
that contain Omega-3 Fatty Acids, which are very helpful to your
skin's health, such as the fish and olive oil.
This diet does include meal plans for the month, including breakfast,
lunch, dinner, and two snacks per day. People who have been on
the diet for a month, can opt to stay on the diet while adding
a few forbidden foods every so often. The diet is very healthy,
and does produce the skin results you expect. While following
the plan, you are eating healthier than most people, and you cannot
say anything bad about the diet, yet if your major goal is not
just eating healthy but losing weight, you may want to consider
another diet plan.
