OVERVIEW
Obesity is a huge epidemic in today's world. Third-world countries
aside, people are spending much less time exercising and much,
much more time eating. The foods we eat these days are higher
in calories and portion size. The technology that has emerged
makes it less likely that people will even walk to the store rather
than drive. Now that it has reached a serious point, obesity should
be at the forefront of our nation's concern.
In the U.S., 65% of the adult population is obese or overweight.
It is important that we investigate what qualifies someone as
overweight or obese.
Overweight is a term to describe someone whose weight is higher
than desired in relation to their height. The scale used to determine
if someone is overweight or obese is known as the BMI - the Body
Mass Index.
