THE CONCEPT
NutriSystem is a diet plan that originally included full service
diet centers where clients would meet with counsellors to discuss
their dieting, exercise space was available. Now, NutriSystem
has become an online source for complete diet overhaul. Users
sign up online, work out a dieting strategy, and can order all
of their meals prepackaged and prepared, delivered to their door.
THE PLAN
Signing up online is free, users have access to tons of information,
dieting plans, and support from experts and other people using
the system. From there, users can opt to have Nutrisystem supply
them with every meal for any period of time. The meals are prepared
and packaged for easy portability. Customers order between one
and ten week's worth of food, and it is delivered to their door
in 5-10 days. There are options for auto delivery, so that every
month 4 week's worth of breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks appear
at your door.
NutriSystem claims that with 1 week you'll lose 10 pounds. The
idea is that the meals are perfectly balanced to achieve weight
loss and good health. They have combined the concepts of the Atkins
diet with that of a low-fat diet, to give you weight loss without
the negative effects of cutting carbs out of your diet. The plan
actually derives most of its calories from carbs, at about 55%
carbs. However, the carbs featured in their meals are complex
carbohydrates, which are broken down in the body slowly and do
not get stored as fat. By selecting carb-rich foods with a low
Glycemic Index, the body does not absorb the sugars because the
simple sugars are not there.
Nutrisystem is a great way to eat properly. It takes the measuring,
calorie-counting, research out of the equation. The only problem
is that users must remember to exercise, and cannot count on NutriSystem
when they are on their own to prepare their meals once off the
plan. Also, the price can deter many interested people, as a month
of food can cost between $247.45 and $274.95. If you can get past
the price, it is an excellent option for dieting - a balanced,
low-fat diet is the best path to take.
