PROTEIN DIETS - PROTEIN-RICH DIETING - ATKINS DIET
HIGH
PROTEIN DIETS
THE CONCEPT
Very simple - eat lots and lots of protein. Cutting
out almost all carbohydrates and enjoying all the meat you want.
However, the diets are not as simple as they seem. They are littered
with problems, many of them very convincing to not attempt such
a diet.
PROBLEMS GALORE
These diets are very meat-oriented. They encourage
users to gorge on meat, regardless of the fat content of the food.
The saturated fats and cholestrol consumed by users go against all
research showing that eating lots of fat causes heart-disease. The
lack of calcium in the diet may lead to bone troubles, and the lack
of balance to the diet can create health risks.
Eating lots of protein causes people to produce mass
amounts of ketones which arise when a body uses fat as its
primary energy source. With an abundance of ketones, the kidneys
are put through a lot of stress when trying to expell the excess.
The diet, restricting carbohydrates, makes it more difficult to
obtain the energy needed to perform ordinary activities throughout
the day. The lack of fiber and other vitamins and minerals with
this diet are a major cause for concern.
This dieting method is not recommended from the numerous
health risks as well as the over-hanging truth - the potential for
major weight gain once off the diet tells us that it is only a quick
fix, and not the path to life-lasting weight loss.
