YOUR DAILY INTAKE
Your daily calorie intake is the amount of calories per day that
you require to fit your lifestyle. Since calories are energy that
your body uses to perform its functions, the energy required is
relative to your weight and activity level. The recommendations
are meant as guides to tell you how many calories to eat to balance
your energy intake versus your used calories.
The guidelines are different for men and women, and are fairly
simple to calculate. For women, it begins by taking your current
weight. Then, you multiply your weight in pounds by a number corresponding
to your typical activity level. For a sedentary lifestyle, a female
should multiply her weight by 12 to discover how many calories
she should be consuming: for instance, if you weigh 140 pounds,
you would take 140 and times it by 12 to get the number 1680.
This means that you should be eating 1680 calories a day. For
moderate exercise, you should multiply your weight by 14, for
regular heavy exercise you should multiply by 16.
For men, the numbers are slightly different. For a sedentary
lifestyle, you should multiply your weight by 13, for moderate
exercise, the number is 15.25. For regular heavy exercise, it
should be 18.
